Ever wondered what happens to all of the urban wood disposed of by tree care companies and municipalities in Georgia? Research shows that the majority of this material is going to landfills. Come to this workshop to learn of some new innovative re-use methods happening across the country and how you can be a part of this exciting opportunity to recycle urban wood in Georgia.

Topics and Speakers:

• Practices and Perceptions of Urban Wood Waste Utilization in Georgia, Dr. Eric Wiseman, Virginia Tech. Results from the Urban Wood Utilization Survey in Georgia.
  

• Urban Tree Use:  Lessons Learned from Minneapolis, MN, Raleigh, NC and Richmond, VA, Steve Bratkovich, Dovetail Partners. An introduction to the clustering concept of economic development and addressing some of the key findings from recent studies in the 3 states.

• Innovations in Urban Forest Management and Assessment – How Communities and Businesses can Benefit, Katie Fernholz, Dovetail Partners. This presentation will provide examples of approaches being used in communities to address urban forest management, urban forest assessment tools, and increased opportunities for economic, social and environmental benefits.

  Dr. Richard Hauer, Professor of Urban Forestry at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.
