Emergency Response & Aerial Rescue

Tree climbers must know how to respond to an array of emergencies. Phillip Kelly, a Certified Arborist and Certified Tree Safety Professional, will instruct workshop participants on emergency preparedness, readiness and accident prevention using a mix of discussions and hands-on practice rounds.

Workshop Topics:

• Rescue, readiness and reality … high angle rescue challenges, climbing systems, and protocols, procedures and relevant legislation

• First aid and CPR review … casualty assessment and emergency phone protocols

• Risk assessment and scene management … site and electrical hazards, suspension trauma, and stress management

• Extent and severity injury evaluation

• Self-rescue and working in isolation … definition, techniques, and methods

• Climber extrication … scenario evaluation, equipment preparation, removal systems (ropes, anchors and spar poles), and victim transport

• Rescuer ascent and work positioning … rope and climbing systems and rescue strategies

Workshop Delivery:

• Friday 14 October 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. -- rain or shine (canceling only for inclement weather)

• Biltmore Estate, 1 Lodge Street, Asheville, NC  28803

         Meet at entrance gate at 8:00 a.m.; caravan to instruction site

• The workshop is limited to only 50 participants.

• Certified arborists (ISA) and registered foresters (SAF) may receive up to 6.5 credits.
