Bamboo is the fastest renewable plant on Earth which can provide sustainable and accessible building materials, erosion control, habitats, and even food! Yet this super plant has a complex reputation in Georgia. Ann Richardson is an expert on bamboo plants and will address whether bamboo is friend or foe in Atlanta's urban forest and beyond.

During this special Invasive Species Awareness Week Lunch and Learn, we will tackle the misconceptions of Bamboo in Atlanta and beyond. This talk will shed light on the history, cultural relevance, growing habits, management, and many uses of this plant. Joining Ann at the Lunch & Learn is Trees Atlanta Forest Restoration Manager, Madison Cummiskey who will share more about the work done in greenspaces around Atlanta to address invasive species.

About the Presenter: Ann Richardson was the Horticultural Superintendent at The Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California, until her retirement. As prior Curator of the Japanese Garden there, she cared for many bamboo plants, both invasive and clumping. Later, as Superintendent, she introduced new species of bamboo in several gardens. Her favorite plant is Bamboo.
