Over the past five years, the integration of 3D scanning with biomechanical analysis has emerged as a critical advancement in tree assessment. By refining tomographic data with precise stem geometry, we have uncovered valuable insights that significantly improve how tree care specialists evaluate structural stability and risk.

This presentation will highlight key tools such as LiDAR and photogrammetry, while also addressing their current limitations in biomechanical evaluation.

In addition, it will explore the nature of tree cavities and what they truly mean from a biomechanical perspective, moving beyond visual assumptions toward quantifiable structural understanding.
